Happy Birthday to my Nan, who at 82 is still the coolest lady I know.

And...

Happy Birthday, Bill! Well, today might not be his actual birthday, although it's widely recognized as such (he died on April 23; being born on the exact same day is pretty unlikely. I guess it adds to the legend). We do know that he was baptized on April 26, which, as it happens, is my sister's birthday.

As I've said before, I am a big nerd. Reading is my main hobby for pleasure, and I considered becoming an English literature major (before Lady Art came calling). I lurve me some Shakespeare, and I really, really lurve me some Kenneth Branagh doing Shakespeare. Here are a couple of treats to celebrate the Bard's birthday.

Gene Wilder, I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love you. I'm probably going to buy your new book, because let's face it, I'm kind of becoming "the woman who wouldn't." Now if I can just clean up my potty mouth, you might deign to spend some time with me.

Is that a ten-gallon hat, or are you just enjoying the show?

My crush on Gene Wilder, which began when I first saw Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, was solidified the day I watched Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles with my dad. It is one of my all time favorite, "desert island" movies. Odienator over at Big Media Vandalism wrote a post about it that is so amazing, I really have nothing to add...except this.


Of course, Gene Wilder isn't the only reason to watch the movie. It features Mel Brooks, Harvey Corman, Cleavon Little and the exquisite Madeline Kahn:


At the end of the day, though, I still have a major crush on only one cast member - The Waco Kid.
