Not for sale by owner

Last Saturday, on the corner of Hollywood and Highland, around midnight:

Dude selling tourist trinkets: "Hey lady, if you need a sugah daddy, I'm available!"

Me: "Thanks, but I'm good."

Trinket dude: "Awww, come on, now."

Me: "I pay my own bills, but thanks anyway."

Trinket dude: "Well, if you change yo' mind, you know where to find me, girl."

Ginger,

While I doubt this does anything to improve your impression of men in general, I humbly apologize on behalf of my gender. Such appalling behavior dumbfounds me. How is it that anyone can find it acceptable to treat women in this fashion? Regardless of intent, it's simply offensive and disrespectful. I was raised by my mother and sister, so I was "brainwashed" at an early age to treat women with respect and I think I'm a better person for it.

Anyway, I don't know what it is about young, redheaded Irish women, but apparently you're not the only one who endures this seemingly constant barrage of unwanted attention. I am 37 and happily married with children, but my coworker and very best friend is 23, a redhead and Irish. She's told me countless stories of this type of behavior, each more bizarre than the last. I could see having a few examples to choose from, but she's got story after story. It's disturbing. And then to find your blog and discover the similarities between you makes me wonder if it's more than a coincedence.

Respectfully,
Andy

ajg, no need to apologize on behalf of your gender. Just don't don't be a fuckwit, and when you catch a bepenised friend being a fuckwit, call him out on it.

Witchy is right, these kinds of things happen to us all, regardless of hair color.

Witchy, I doubt that he mistook me for a hooker, since I was in jeans and completely covered up. Besides, "hooker chic" is totally accepted in that part of town, and you'll see all kinds of women wearing it, whether they're turning tricks or not. I think he was just begging for attention.

blacksheep, you summed it up perfectly.
